Professional T-shirt Printing

In case you are not familiar with screen printing or embroidery here is a little background on each one. Screen printing is the printing process where ink is pressed into a screen and onto fabric, in this case that fabric is your professional t-shirt. It is then heated to 325 degrees to dry the ink and create a bond with the t-shirt. You can choose your professional t-shirt to be any color and you can also choose the ink to be any color as well. Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread. So if you wanted to go with embroidery you can get a polo shirt in let’s say, black. You can get the left chest embroidered with your company logo in the company colors and on the right chest you can get your name embroidered with say white thread. There are many different ways you can get your professional t-shirts embroidered.

An example for screen printing is you could get a black button down short sleeve shirt and get your company logo screen printed on the full back in white ink and you could also get your company name screen printed on the left chest. Another idea is you can get polo’s and just get the company name screen printed on the left or right sleeve. So when our owner of the Company AMBRO Manufacturing along with the President and VP of the company were asked what they would consider the definition of contract screen printing would be here is what they said. The owner and operator Bob said “Contract screen printing is when the customer provides their own good and we are to check there goods in when they arrive on our property.” What our president Ryan had to say was “Contract screen printing is when a customer provides their own goods on a weekly or monthly basis, a customer who brings their own goods in once is considered a retail costumer. Also a contract customer would supply a reseller number for tax purposes.” And this is what our VP Darren had to say “Contract screen printing is when someone hires us to do their printing on their garments.

So basically from the definitions we have heard from our Owner, President, and VP we get that in contract screen printing the customer is to provide their own goods and most of their artwork and we will print it for them. With contract screen printing it is where you have clientele who bring large orders along with supplied garments right to us. Once your garments get to us we will count them in to make sure all the garments are here before we go any further. After that your order will get sent to our highly skilled artist who will take your artwork and turn it into a film that we can burn the screens with. After the screens are burned the garments along with the screens will be sent to the press where your art work will be printed onto your goods. And that is how it works.

Sublimation printing is a printing process that allows the ink to be printed into the fabric and not on it. This is a very simple technique that is initiated by heat and controlled with pressure and time. With sublimation you can only use shirts that are made out of polyester and for the best outcome it is recommended that the shirts be white. Even though your shirt has to be white you can get the entire shirt sublimated with whatever color you would like it to be. Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread.

Often called All Over Shirt Printing, Large Format Screen Printing, Over Sized Screen Printing or a variety of other suitable descriptions, Jumbo Screen Printing on the entire surface area of a T-Shirt, from seam to seam, shoulder to waist and on the neck.

Most standard screen printing presses offer a maximum of a 14” x 16” print area. This type of print area is perfect any T-Shirt. However, when artists and fashion designers begin offering T-Shirts with prints that completely cover the surface area of the front and back of a T-Shirt, these small screen sizes won’t do the job.

There is no governing body in the screen printing industry that defines what Jumbo Screen Printing actually means. As a result, providers across the country make claims of Jumbo Screen Printing and they can’t always provide the level of print that is expected by their customers.

Some screen printers that don’t have Jumbo Screen Printing equipment will “seam” together two prints to give the illusion of an all over print. Even with manual alignment, seaming always leaves a noticeable seam area.

In order to truly get an all over screen print, specialized screens, pallets and presses must be used.

AMBRO Manufacturing defines “Jumbo” as anything starting with 40” x 40” of print area, we calculate not the size of the frame, but the actual size of the printable area. Large format screen printing is a specialty that few screen printers offer.

All Over Shirt

All Over Shirt Screen Printing is very different than standard screen printing.  The first and most missed element is the various additional screens required for the process.

In most standard screen printing jobs, the most screens that you might use for different sizes would be two sets.  Typically a set for adult and a set for youth.  In All Over Shirt Screen Printing, one set per size is required.  So if you have 6 sizes in your run and you have 4 colors in each design, you’ll need 24 screens for that single job.  Since screen setup costs for All Over Shirt prints tend to be higher, you may want to prepare your client for much higher setup fees.

By natue an All Over Shirt screen print is … well … all over.  The integrity of a specific design might be impacted by the size of the shirt.  As an example, let’s say that you were licensed to print Kermit The Frog.  If Kermit’s head was 30 inches wide in the design and you were printing on Small, Medium, Large, XL and 2XL, Kermit’s ears would not get printed on the smalls and mediums because 30 inches exceeds the width of those garments.  Kermit would fit perfectly on the large and on the XL and 2XL there would be a lot of blank space.  Each size shirt in the rung would make the design look very different.  It is for this reason that in a true All Over Shirt print, separate screens for each size shirt must be made.
